I make the blades the handles and the sheaths myself. They are carbon steel and thus, will stain and need to be oiled and maintained. However, they will hold an edge better than most types of stainless steel. I make the blades using a traditional charcoal forge, hand-grind and carefully temper them. These are old-school, tough-as-nails knives.
