G. C. Co. (Waidmanns Helfer) Fixed Blade Hunting Bowie Knife, Solingen, Germany
Offered for sale is an G. (Gutmann Cutlery) fixed-blade hunting Bowie knife, made in Solingen, Germany, probably circa late 1940s or 1950s. Gutmann may still be in business today, but I could not find any current references for them. This knife features a carbon steel spear point blade, full tapered tang construction, a nickel silver hilt and pommel, and stag horn handle. The blade is 5" long and 3/16" thick at the hilt. The blade is tang stamped G. Solingen Germany, " and "Waidmanns Helfer Seit 1906 is engraved lengthwise down the blade. The knife is in good condition overall, showing signs of normal use and carry. There are several area of pitting throughout. The blade appears to be about 97% intact. Comes with its original leather sheath note: The sheath has seen better days, and is falling apart.
If you plan to carry this knife, I would recommend using a different sheath. This knife is very well made, and will provide many years of service with proper care. Or, it would be right at home in a collection of fixed blade knives.
