The Benchmade 153 Jungle Machete is a rugged, purpose-built tool designed by renowned knifemaker Warren Osborne. It features a substantial 9.69-inch bolo-style blade crafted from 1095 high-carbon spring steel, known for its excellent toughness, flexibility, and ease of sharpening. Unlike many harder, brittle steels, spring steel has a high yield strength, allowing the blade to absorb heavy impacts, flex under stress, and return to true without permanent deformation-making it especially well suited for chopping, clearing brush, and hard outdoor use. The Full Tang machete is fitted with a Santoprene handle, a durable synthetic rubber material that offers a secure, non-slip grip. Santoprene provides many of the advantages of natural rubber while maintaining performance in extreme heat or cold, resisting cracking, hardening, or becoming slick when wet.
