We have a very unusual Antique 1800s Fighting Butcher Knife that is 13 and 1/4 inches long with an 8 and 1/2 inch clipped carbon steel blade and it is 1 1/2 inches wide... The knife has a rare handle made of a hard rubber called "Gutta Percha". It is the same substance that most dentists use today for teeth fillings and was used on knife handles as well as photograph frames, pistol grips and canes to name a few. It has three brass rivets holding the rubber to the thick tang.
A similar knife is shown in the fifth picture above from a collectible book but our knife has no metal bolster near the blade. The knife is thick and very sturdy... A great addition to your Fur Trade or Hudson Bay collection...
