After that, details are sketchy as to how many were ever made. This knife has serial number 1439 stamped on the brass guard, definitely making it a 1975 knife. The model RL-2 was based on the Loveless hunter design and features a drop point hunter blade, with a synthetic Delrin burgandy handle and the R. W, Loveless/Schrade oval laser engraved on the blade.
This is a very sturdy knife, with a blade that is 3/16" thick and 1" deep. The blade is thought to be made from 154CM, although there is a bit of confusion on this matter. This knife is new and definitely collectors grade as the condition is mint.
I do see two things to note - the brass has a bit of tarnish to it from being sheathed at some point (see pics), and there is a very thin line of uneven finish to the delrin handle just below the rivet in the finger groove of the handle. Its about the length of the rivet and maybe1mm wide. Very inconspicuous and super hard to see, even with the close up photo. I didn't even notice it until after I had handled it a few times! The original leather sheath is also in excellent condition. The box is also in excellent condition, with very minimal light marks on the edges (light scuffs, very small dings). The original papers show some ageing/toning to them, but no rips or tears. Overall condition would rate a solid 9.5 or better out of 10. Please review all of the photos as they are part of the description and are of the actual item. Photos will supersede any written descriptions in case I missed noting anything or made an error in what I did write, so please look closely and ask questions if in doubt.
